privacy policy

LowKal is a product of Finnbrose Labs LLC (“Finnbrose,” “we,” “us”). This policy covers lowkal.app and the LowKal apps when they are available.

LowKal is a general wellness tool. It is not medical care, diagnosis, or treatment. Estimates are estimates.

1. What this covers

Today. The website waitlist. You give us an email. We store it so we can tell you when LowKal is ready and honor the waitlist price.

When the app ships. Meal logs, optional macros, barcode lookups, recipe URLs, daily targets, and step data you choose to connect from Apple Health or Health Connect.

If we start doing something this policy does not describe, we will update it first.

2. Information we collect

Waitlist (today)

• Email address you submit.
• Approximate location (country and region/state) based on your connection when you join. We do not store your IP address in the waitlist record.
• Time you joined.
• Site analytics. We measure how the waitlist page is used (pages viewed, device type, approximate location). That may use cookies or similar identifiers.

Waitlist records are stored with our hosting provider.

LowKal app (when available)

We will collect only what we need to run the product you turned on:

• Account. Email, sign-in identifiers, and a user ID.
• Food log. Meals, items, amounts, barcodes, recipe URLs, suggested pairings you accept, calories, and macros if you use them.
• Targets. Daily calorie target and optional macro targets.
• Activity, if you connect it. Step count from Apple Health or Health Connect, used to adjust the calorie budget for that day. We only ask for what that feature needs. We do not write step data back unless we say so here first.
• Device and diagnostics. App version, OS, crash logs, and coarse device type, so we can fix bugs.
• Purchases. If you subscribe, Apple or Google process the payment. We receive a subscription status (active, expired, waitlist pricing), not your full card number.
• Support. Whatever you send to [email protected].

We do not need your name, photos of your body, or contacts to run LowKal. If a future feature needs a camera (for example, barcode scanning on-device), that image is used to identify the code. We will not use camera frames for advertising.

Health-related data

Food logs, calorie and macro numbers, targets, and connected step counts are health-adjacent. We treat them as sensitive.

• We use them to provide LowKal: logging, totals, and a step-adjusted budget.
• We do not sell them.
• We do not use connected health data for marketing, advertising, or data brokers.
• We do not use that data to train third-party foundation models.
• This is not a medical privacy notice. LowKal is not a clinic.

We do not collect (and do not want)

• Payment card numbers (stores handle that).
• Precise GPS.
• Contacts, photos of people, or microphone audio.
• Data from anyone we know is under 18.

3. How we use information

• Run the waitlist and email you about launch, first access, and the waitlist price ($24.99 USD for the first year of the paid plan, then $49.99/year, unless we tell you otherwise before you pay).
• Provide logging, totals, pairings, barcode and recipe lookup, and step-adjusted budgets.
• Keep logging available without payment. Paid features (macros, longer history, recipe URLs, unlimited scans as offered) are described in the product and in the Terms.
• Prevent abuse, fix bugs, and understand whether the waitlist and app are working.
• Comply with law and enforce the Terms.

We do not have to use your food log to send you marketing. Waitlist email is transactional: you asked to be notified. If we ever send optional marketing email, it will have an unsubscribe.

4. Who we share with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

We use service providers to host the site and waitlist, measure traffic, send the emails you asked for, and (when the app ships) to distribute the app, process subscriptions, and connect optional health data. Apple and Google handle store payments and, if you connect them, Apple Health or Health Connect.

Those providers are only allowed to use this data to provide their service to us.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect people from serious harm, or as part of a merger or sale of Finnbrose Labs LLC, with this policy still applying or with notice.

5. Retention

• Waitlist. Until you ask us to delete it, or until we have emailed you about launch and you have either created an account or opted out. We will not keep waitlist emails indefinitely “just in case” after the product is generally available.
• App logs. Until you delete them or close your account, then within a reasonable period after (typically 30 days, unless we must keep a record of a purchase or a legal request).
• Analytics. For a limited time, according to our analytics tools.
• Backups. May linger for a short window after deletion.

6. Your choices

• Do not join the waitlist if you do not want us to store your email.
• Use your browser’s cookie controls if you do not want analytics cookies. The site may still work.
• In the app (when available): disconnect Apple Health or Health Connect at any time in system settings. Logging still works; the budget will not add activity calories.
• Email [email protected] to access, correct, or delete waitlist or account data. Say “LowKal privacy” in the subject. We will verify it is you.

Depending on where you live (including California and the EEA/UK), you may also have rights to know, access, correct, delete, port, or object to certain processing, and to appeal a denial. We will not discriminate against you for exercising those rights.

To appeal or if we cannot verify a request, email the same address. You may also contact your local data protection authority.

Do not sell or share. We do not sell personal information as California defines it, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If that changes, we will put a “Do Not Sell or Share” control on the site.

7. Children

LowKal is for adults, 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have, we will delete it. If you believe a minor signed up, write to [email protected].

Calorie tracking can be harmful for some people, including those with a history of disordered eating. LowKal is not designed for children or for clinical treatment.

8. International transfers

Finnbrose is in the United States. Our hosting, analytics, and other service providers may process data in the US or other countries. If you join from outside the US, you understand your information may be processed there. For EEA/UK users, our legal bases are: consent (waitlist email, health connections, cookies where required), contract (providing the app you asked for), and legitimate interests (security and basic product analytics that are not ads).

9. Security

We protect waitlist and account data with standard industry practices (encrypted connections, limited access). No method is perfect. Do not put information in LowKal you cannot accept being stored in the cloud.

10. Changes

We will post the new effective date here. If we start using waitlist or health data in a materially new way (for example, selling it, which we do not intend, or using Health data for ads, which we will not), we will give prominent notice and, where required, ask again.
